Food and metabolism · General knowledge
This overview of food and metabolism does not explain every disease or replace the condition-specific advice above.
01 · ENERGY STORAGE
Sugars and carbohydrates are broken down into glucose for energy. If energy intake consistently exceeds needs, the body can store the surplus as fat, including triglycerides and fat in the liver. This does not mean that every mouthful of sugar immediately becomes fat.
02 · THE WHOLE PATTERN
Health is not determined by a single food. Overall intake, processed foods, movement, sleep, genetics, medications, and medical conditions all matter. Excess abdominal fat may be associated with insulin resistance and chronic low-grade inflammation, but inflammation is not the sole cause of every disease.
A practical starting point.
Reduce sugary drinks, fried snacks, bakery products, and processed foods. Add vegetables, beans, whole grains, whole fruit, and suitable unsaturated fats. Dietary changes do not replace prescribed medicines, assessment, or treatment.
