EVIDENCE WITH CONTEXT

How we check sources, explain the scope of evidence, and communicate uncertainties openly.

01

Resources

  • Use primary sources and academic documents appropriate to the topic.
  • Do not use a general blog as the main evidence of a health claim.
  • Do not create your own DOI, URL, research name, or references.
  • Record each reference's verification status separately from the article text.
02

Interpreting evidence

  • Separate what is supported by evidence from what is still being studied.
  • Identify limitations and uncertainties when present.
  • Evidence for an ingredient does not automatically establish the effects of the finished product.
  • An association does not establish cause and effect.
03

Reviewers and qualifications

Reviewer names, qualifications, and review dates are displayed only after the reviewer and process are verified.

04

Content status

Specialist health content without appropriate references or review remains in draft or review status and is not published.
